EPA Honors Organizations in Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina for Climate, Stratospheric Ozone Protection

Four organizations in the Southeast were recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for excellence in protection of the Earth's climate and stratospheric ozone layer. The organizations are being recognized for demonstrating ingenuity, leadership and public purpose by achieving reductions of ozone depleting and heat-trapping gas emissions.
The 2004 Climate Protection Award winning corporation in the Southeast is Interface, Inc. in Kennesaw, Georgia. The 2004 Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award winning organizations in the Southeast are General Electric Company in Louisville, Kentucky, NASA Shuttle Environmental Assurance Initiative in Huntsville, Alabama, and North Carolina Foam Industries in Mount Airy, North Carolina. The annual Stratospheric Protection Awards began in 1990, and since then, EPA has awarded 478 individuals and organizations from 40 countries. EPA began the Climate Protection Awards in 1998 and has so far recognized 93 individuals and organizations from 16 countries. This year, there are 17 winners of the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award and 12 winners of the Climate Protection Award from ten countries.
