EPA seeks public comment on Univar cleanup plan
CHICAGO (July 31, 2009) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has proposed a ground water contamination cleanup plan for the Univar Inc. facility at 59865 Market St., South Bend, Ind. The public is invited to provide written comments on the plan until Oct. 9.
The proposed plan calls for the addition of nutrients into the ground water to aid the natural breakdown of the contamination. Previous actions at the site include connection of residential and commercial properties to the city of South Bend drinking water supply in 1996 and removal of contamination by a soil vapor extraction system started in 1995.
An EPA document called a "Statement of Basis" provides a summary of the environmental contamination investigation and identifies cleanup options. It is available at the St. Joseph County Public Library, Western Branch, 611 Lombardy Drive, South Bend, or at

Written comments can be mailed to Donald Heller, project manager, EPA, 77 W. Jackson Blvd. (LU9J), Chicago, IL 60604-3590 or e-mail [email protected]
