EPA awards over $100,000 to the Shawnee Tribe to support the development of environmental protection programs

(Dallas, Texas – August 1, 2007) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently awarded $110,000 to the Shawnee Tribe for the General Assistance Program (GAP). The primary purpose of GAP is to support the development of core Tribal environmental protection programs. The tribe will use the funds to carry out project activities such as creating and disseminating an environmental information pamphlet, attending environmentally related meetings and conferences, hosting a community meeting on pesticides, and updating the tribe’s environmental website.
