(2/10/06) On Feb. 3, 2006, EPA posted results from samples taken at the Naval Construction Battalion Center facility in Gulfport, Miss., as part of ongoing hurricane cleanup efforts. EPA was testing to see whether the site was impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

Five sediment samples were collected from five locations in the wetland area and compared with sampling conducted before Hurricane Katrina. Four additional sediment samples were collected and analyzed for PCBs at the request of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.

Based on these sampling results, EPA does not believe the site was impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
