Chicago, Ill. (Sept. 10, 2010)– U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Susan Hedman will hold a 3:30 p.m. media briefing today at the site of the Enbridge oil spill in Romeoville, Ill.
The briefing will be held at EPA's unified command post at 721 Parkwood at the intersection of Parkwood and Ridgewood in the Romeoville Industrial Park (Normanstown Road and Route 53.)
Contrary to published reports, EPA has determined that while the spill is being contained, the release of oil from the pipeline has not stopped. The Regional Administrator will outline deadlines that Enbridge must meet to stop the spill and clean up contamination.
EPA emergency response personnel were deployed to Romeoville on Thursday to investigate and respond to the spill from a pipeline owned by Enbridge Energy Limited Partnership.
The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 designates EPA as the lead agency responsible for responding to inland oil spills.
