The Environmental Protection Agency today announced it has agreed to a $30,000 settlement from the former Tenney’s Toyota (now All-Star Toyota) in Seattle for violations of the Clean Air Act.
Following August 1999 inspections by EPA investigators, the agency filed a complaint against Tenney’s Toyota for failure to have eight of its air conditioning technicians certified to handle chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)-based air conditioning fluid.
CFCs are known to contribute to the deterioration of Earth’s protective stratospheric ozone layer. Their use is regulated under the 1990 Clean Air Act amendments which represent the U.S. responsibilities under the Montreal Protocol, an international agreement that calls for a global ban on production of CFCs and called for the phase-out of their use.
