EPA news brief:  Nov. 18 open house and public hearing on proposed changes to Ohio water pollution program

(Chicago, Ill. - Nov. 13, 2008) U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 will hold an open house and public hearing on Nov. 18 on a proposed change to Ohio's wastewater discharge permit program for concentrated animal feeding operations. Both will take place at the Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Road, Columbus. Representatives from EPA, Ohio EPA and Ohio Department of Agriculture will be available to answer questions at the open house from 3 to 5:30 p.m. A formal public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. and conclude at 9:30 p.m.

EPA has reviewed and proposed approval of the state's application to transfer control of parts of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System - wastewater discharge - program from Ohio EPA to Ohio Department of Agriculture.

Ohio's application and related documents are available on EPA's Web site at: https://www.epa.gov/region5/water/npdestek/odacafo.htm. They are also available for review at ODA's Livestock Environmental Permitting Program office in Reynoldsburg; the Auglaize Soil and Water Conservation District, 110 Industrial Drive Suite G in Wapakoneta; the Wayne Soil and Water Conservation District, 428 West Liberty St., Wooster; and EPA's regional office in Chicago.

EPA invites comments on the proposal by Dec. 16 either at the hearing, by mail or through the Web site above. Comments must include the commenter's mailing address.
