BOSTON -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is encouraging small businesses in New England to submit research proposals under a small business program that provides contracts to organizations for researching and developing cutting edge environmental technologies.
The Small Business Innovation Research Program -- whose contracts run up to $70,000 -- is intended to spawn commercial ventures that improve our environment, quality of life, create jobs, increase productivity and economic growth, and improve the international competitiveness of the U.S. technology industry.
Since 1990, the EPA has awarded 318 contracts to fund research and development at small businesses throughout the country. The EPA typically awards contracts to products and technologies that address such issues as drinking water disinfection, particulate matter, and pollution prevention and new technologies.
The deadline for submitting research proposals is Nov. 18.
Formore information or a copy of the solicitation, visit the EPA's web site at "www.epa.gov.ncerqa" and click on the small business box, or call EPA-New England's Center for Environmental Industry and Technology at (800)575-CEIT
