FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kansas City, Kan., April 28, 2009) – EPA Region 7, in coordination with Kansas State University and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), will host three free one-day workshops next month in Dodge City, Topeka and Wichita, Kan., to provide information about available resources for the revitalization of Kansas communities.

The goal of the workshops is to educate eligible entities about grants and other resources available to address Brownfields and other underutilized properties in Kansas communities.

The workshops are part of the mission of EPA’s Land Revitalization Program, to help restore land and other natural resources into sustainable community assets that maximize beneficial economic, ecological and social uses, and ensure protection of human health and the environment.

Representatives of all potentially eligible groups are encouraged to attend the workshops. Those groups include local governments, land clearance authorities or quasi-governmental entities, regional councils, planning commissions, economic development entities (such as those sanctioned by local or state charter), tribes, nonprofits, educational entities, health departments, and others interested in revitalization issues.

Space at the workshops is limited, so early registration is urged. Here are dates and locations:
  • May 11 - KDHE, Curtis State Office Building, 1000 S.W. Jackson, Fifth Floor, Rm. 530, Topeka, Kan.
  • May 12 - University of Kansas School of Medicine, 1010 N. Kansas, Meadowlark Room, Wichita, Kan.
  • May 19 - KDHE, Dodge City District Office, 302 W. McArtor Rd., Dodge City, Kan.
