UPDATED: EPA Chief, DOI Secretary, CEQ Chair to Head Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force Meeting in Galveston

WASHINGTON – On Monday, June 27, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P. Jackson will convene an official meeting of the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force in Galveston, Texas. She will be joined by U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley. It will be held at the Galveston Convention Center from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CDT and is open to the public.

Administrator Jackson, who chairs the task force, Secretary Salazar and Chair Sutley will hold a press availability at 10:30 a.m CDT. Press who are unable to attend the meeting can RSVP to [email protected] to receive dial-in information.

During the meeting, Jackson, Salazar, Sutley and other participants will discuss the progress of restoration efforts, ongoing public engagement strategy and international coordination. It will be followed by a public listening session from 2:30 to 4:15 p.m. CDT.

The Galveston meeting is the latest in a series of meetings that the task force is holding throughout the five gulf states. The group is committed to ensuring ongoing input from gulf residents and local leaders throughout the strategy development process and will continue to receive feedback during this meeting.

President Obama issued an executive order in October to create the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force, continuing the administration’s ongoing commitment to the gulf region. The task force works to integrate federal restoration efforts with those of local stakeholders and state and tribal governments, and to facilitate accountability and support throughout the restoration process.
