Hurricanes Katrina and Rita: Louisiana - Texas - EPA Response Update

EPA found no significant hazardous materials or oil spills in its area of jurisdiction during the Texas Rapid Needs Assessment.
Teams have collected one surface water sample from the Florida Canal near the Agriculture Street Landfill site in Orleans Parish, one outfall water sample from Pump Station OP#3 (located on the London Canal in Orleans Parish) and three flood water samples at locations in St. Bernard Parish.
An EPA reconnaissance team will continue to collect samples at the Agriculture Street Landfill NPL site. Teams are preparing to assess the western Louisiana NPL sites.
Teams collected residual sediment samples at 59 locations. Nine residual sediment samples were collected from Jefferson Parish. Thirty residual sediment samples were collected from Orleans Parish. Twenty residual sediment samples were collected from St. Bernard Parish.
As of September 26, EPA has collected a total of 27,915 household hazardous waste/orphan containers. The collection of household hazardous waste/orphan containers continued in St. Tammany Parish. Reconnaissance for future collection activities was conducted in Lafourche Parish, Plaquemines Parish, and Grand Isle.
