USED-OIL RECYCLING DAY
EPA representatives will join the American Petroleum Institute (API) in a kick-off event for the Washington Metro Area Used Oil Recycling Day at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at Parker’s Exxon, 4812 MacArthur Blvd., in Washington, D.C. Of the estimated annual 209 million gallons of used motor oil generated by motorists who change their own motor oil, about 32 percent is recovered through recycling, although about 142 million gallons of used oil is disposed of in ways that pollute the environment. Participating gasoline retailers will accept used oil from motorists on Oct. 16 at no charge in the following areas: Washington, D.C.; Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Falls Church, Loudoun and Prince William Counties in Virginia; Anne Arundle, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, Prince Georges and Washington Counties in Maryland. To find places to take used oil for recycling visit API’s web site at: http://www.recycleoil.org.
