PENNSYLVANIA BUSINESSMAN GIVEN 87-MONTH SENTENCE
On Feb. 3, Frank V. Carlow of Uniontown, Pa., owner of several coal mining and demolition companies, was sentenced to serve 87 months in federal prison and pay $4,591,027.00 in restitution by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh. Carlow was convicted on Nov. 3, 1997 of illegally storing hazardous wastes, tax evasion, mail fraud, pension fraud and obstruction of justice. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI, the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division, the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Inspector General and the Secret Service.
