No. 10-OPA30

Chicago (March 23, 2010) -- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has changed the date and place for its meeting and hearing on Team Completions’ proposed permit to dispose of non-hazardous waste deep underground at its facility near Kingsley in Grand Traverse County, Mich.

An open house will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, at St. Mary’s of Hannah Catholic School, 2912 W. M-113, Kingsley, Mich., with a public hearing to follow from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Team Completions currently operates a commercial underground injection well in which it disposes of brine from oil and gas wells. The company also wants to inject what is known as “leachate,” a non-hazardous liquid waste from a landfill.

EPA encourages public comments on its proposed decision. “EPA takes public comments very seriously and the agency is required to consider them before making a final permit decision,” said Rebecca Harvey, water division branch chief. “EPA also reviews and responds to all comments as part of its public participation process.”

The comment period deadline has been extended and now closes on May 5. Submit comments to Rebecca Harvey, Water Division (WU-16J), EPA Region 5, 77 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60604-3590 or [email protected]
