FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
No. 08-OPA115

(Chicago, Ill. July 7, 2008) U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 will hold a public hearing tomorrow, Tuesday, July 8, in East St. Louis to take comments on a draft Clean Air Act operating permit for the Veolia Environmental Services hazardous waste combustion facility, 7 Mobile Ave., Sauget, Ill.

The hearing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville's East St. Louis Higher Education Campus, 601 James R. Thompson Blvd. Interested parties may present data, views or arguments concerning the draft permit. EPA may ask clarifying questions during the presentations but will not respond to comments at the hearing. The public comment period began June 6 and ends July 18.

Oral testimony will be limited to five to 10 minutes, depending on the number of speakers. EPA will not provide special equipment for presentations. Speakers are encouraged to provide written or computer disk versions of their oral testimony.

Normally, Clean Air Act operating permits are issued or denied by states. In this case, EPA intends to issue or deny the permit because of a lawsuit by the Sierra Club and the American Bottom Conservancy. Details of the history of this permitting action and resolution of legal action taken by these two groups can be found in the docket for this action at http://www.regulations.gov and entering Docket ID No. EPA-R05-OAR-2008-0235.

Written statements and supporting information submitted during the comment period will be considered with the same weight as oral comments and supporting information presented at the hearing. Written comments should include the reason for interest in the draft permit, requested actions for EPA to take and justification for the actions.

Written comments and requests to receive notices of future actions may be submitted to EPA until July 18 using any of the following:
