FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, MARCH 28, 1997
EPA PROPOSES NEW SITES ON THE
SUPERFUND NATIONAL PRIORITIES LIST
EPA is proposing six sites for the National Priorities List (NPL) and adding five new sites to the list. The NPL informs the public of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites that warrant further investigation to determine if they pose risks to human health and the environment. Sites that are placed on the NPL are eligible for long-term "remedial action" financed under the Superfund Trust Fund. The proposed sites are: Florida Petroleum Reprocessors, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Terry Creek Dredge Spoil Areas/Hercules Outfall, Brunswick, Ga.; DePue/New Jersey Zinc/Mobil Chemical Corp., DePue, Ill.; Salford Quarry, Lower Salford Township, Pa.; Sprague Road Ground Water Plume, Odessa, Texas; and Fort George G. Meade, Odenton, Md. The five added sites are: Brunswick Wood Preserving, Brunswick, Ga.; Ross Metals Inc., Rossville, Tenn.; Palermo Well Field Ground Water Contamination, Tumwater, Wash.; Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Fla.; and Norfolk Naval Base (Sewells Point Naval Complex), Norfolk, Va. The NPL proposed and finalized sites list is expected to be published in the Federal Register on April 1. For copies of the notice, an updated NPL list or site descriptions, contact the RCRA/Superfund Hotline at 1-800-424-9346 or 703-412-9810.
