Contact Information: For more information contact the Office of External Affairs at (214) 665-2200.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a Public Meeting to explain results of an air pollution study conducted in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
The study found that air quality was similar to or better than comparable urban and rural areas in the country. It also found that movement of air pollution across the border did not appear to impact air quality on the U.S. side of the border.
In response to community concerns about potential health effects from air pollution in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, EPA conducted the Transboundary Air Pollution Project to investigate the movement of air pollution across the border.
The study was conducted by EPA's Office of Research and Development in cooperation with the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission and the Transboundary Community Review Team. Air pollution and weather data were collected for a year at three sites near Brownsville, Texas.
Written information about the study will be available in English and Spanish at the meeting. A Question and Answer Sheet and Community Summary will soon be available on the Internet at www.epa.gov/earth1r6/6bo/nudocs.htm.
