FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1996
COMMON SENSE INITIATIVE AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURING SECTOR MEETING
The Automobile Manufacturing Sector of the Common Sense Initiative (CSI) will hold an open meeting in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday, Feb. 16. The meeting will take place at the Summit Building, 410 West Peachtree St., 10th floor conference rooms 10A and 10B, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST. Preceding the meeting, the Regulatory Initiative Team will meet on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the same location. CSI is the centerpiece of EPA's reinvention activities with a goal of creating solutions to environmental problems that are cleaner for the environment and cheaper for industry and taxpayers. The program reflects the Clinton Administration's commitment to setting strong environmental standards, while encouraging common sense, innovation, and flexibility. The Automobile Manufacturing sector has formed three teams for the focus of its work. The Regulatory Initiative Team's work includes issues within the Clean Air Act's New Source Review program. The Alternative Sector Regulatory System/Community Technical Assistance Team is currently designing principles to a more flexible and accountable regulatory approach, and improving community participation in environmental decision making affecting auto plants. The Life Cycle Management/Supplier Partnership Team has identified a portion of the supply chain to develop a manufacturer-supplier partnership to explore and advance life-cycle management. These projects will be among the issues discussed at the meeting. For additional information on either meeting, contact Carol Kemker at 404-347-3555, extension 4222.
