EPA’S SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY PANEL TO MEET ON PESTICIDE ISSUES
MARCH 24-25

EPA’s Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) is scheduled to meet March 24-25 at the Crystal City Gateway Marriott Hotel in Arlington, Va. During the meeting the SAP will address a broad range of issues that EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs is currently managing under provisions of the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA). In particular, the SAP will discuss various science and policy issues relating to dietary and residential pesticide exposures; EPA’s approach to applying the FQPA ten times (10x) safety factor when revising food tolerances (maximum residue levels) to ensure that infants and children are protected from pesticides; and methodologies for assessing the risks of pesticides that share common mechanisms of toxicity. Public comments will be accepted during the meeting. The two-day meeting is scheduled to adjourn at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24. The SAP was established more than 20 years ago and consists of 60 scientists who provide EPA with scientific advice on pesticides and serve as a peer review body for current scientific issues that may influence the direction of regulatory decisions as they pertain to pesticides. An agenda for the meeting and other information about the Scientific Advisory Panel is available on the Internet at: https://www.epa.gov/pesticides/SAP. Written comments on the meeting’s agenda can be directed to Paul I. Lewis, Designated Federal Official, U.S. EPA, 401 M St. S.W., Washington, D.C. 20460, phone: 703-305-5369 or e-mail: [email protected].
