The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting on Thursday, August 10, 2000 regarding the Potter's Septic Tank Service site in Sandy Creek, North Carolina. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Hood Creek Community Center off of Highway 87 in Sandy Creek.
EPA officials will discuss a proposed amendment to the ground water remedy that was selected in the 1992 Record of Decision. The proposed amendment is being recommended due to additional groundwater sampling data collected since 1992 and the elimination of the source of pollution through removal and treatment of contaminated soil. Data show that concentrations of contaminants in the groundwater have dropped considerably and it appears that contaminants are being destroyed naturally. EPA officials will be available to provide information, answer questions, and address concerns regarding the site. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
EPA is opening a thirty (30) day public comment period that commences August 10, 2000 and ends midnight September 8, 2000. During the period, EPA will accept comments pertaining to the amendment. Comments should be addressed to Diane Barrett, Community Involvement Coordinator, U.S. EPA Region 4, Waste Management Division, 11th Floor, 61 Forsyth Street, S.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30303. |
