MEDIA ALERT: EPA Chief to Visit LA Green School, Highlight Green Economy

LOS ANGELES—On Friday, April 20th, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator and Obama cabinet member Lisa P. Jackson will visit the Los Angeles River Academy to participate in the Academy’s Earth Day celebration. The Administrator will also participate in a townhall meeting with students and faculty to discuss recent EPA actions to protect people’s health and the environment, and the emerging green economy.
Opened in September of 2011, The L.A. River Academy is an innovative, environmental studies public high school that was built on a former industrial site and transformed into a “green school.” L.A. River School aims to prepare students for green jobs through environmental curriculums. The school includes an Energy and Environmental Technology (EET) component that will prepare students for continued training, postsecondary education, or entry level employment in the Energy and Utilities Industry sectors. As part of the EET program, students will have access to a state of the art Hydrology and Energy Laboratory with professional testing and research equipment as well as access to a 1,200 square food greenhouse.
The visit is part of a two day visit to Southern California to participate in Earth Day events, meet with community leaders, students and stakeholders to discuss the Agency’s environmental priorities.
