OHIO LANDFILL OWNER CHARGED
WITH CLEAN WATER ACT VIOLATION
WITH CLEAN WATER ACT VIOLATION
Timothy Williams, owner of the Exit C&D Landfill in Osnaburg Township, Ohio, was charged on Jan. 2, in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in with violating the Clean Water Act. The charges allege that Williams ordered an employee to illegally pump leachate from the landfill in April and May of 1999 into a tributary of Indian Run Creek which runs through residential neighborhoods. The leachate allegedly contained arsenic and ammonia, which in sufficient concentrations can be harmful to fish and aquatic life. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio in Cleveland.
