Harleysville Resident Honored with EPA Employee Award

PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s mid-Atlantic region presented the William T. Wisniewski Human Resources Achievement Award to Rick Rogers, of Harleysville.

Rogers, chief of the region’s drinking water branch, was honored for supporting the career development of regional employees and encouraging them to pursue higher education.

“Rick encourages creating individual development plans and follows through on them,” said last year’s winner Karen Johnson, who made the announcement at the May 11 employee recognition ceremony.

An individual development plan is an outline that puts on paper where a person wants to go with their career and what they and their manager feel is necessary to reach those goals through training and job experience.

Johnson added that Rogers, who has worked at EPA since 1987, sends his staff to national meetings, specialized training, and regional events so that the staff can share their knowledge with the states. “He acknowledges contributions to the branch with day-to-day thank-yous and ‘thanks for helping out with this,’ which makes people feel that their work is valued,” she said.

EPA’s mid-Atlantic region covers Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
