PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s mid-Atlantic region presented its Regional Science Achievement Award to William Browne, of Gladwyne.
Browne, an environmental engineer with the Air Protection Division, was honored for his scientific achievements.
“At EPA William Browne’s primary focus is to stay abreast of truly state-of-the-art science regarding air pollution control technology,” said last year’s award recipient Janet Kremer, who made the announcement at the May 11 employee recognition ceremony. “This past year, he was involved in developing a research proposal to investigate the effectiveness of ultraviolet treatment of molds contained in schools’ air handling systems.”
Browne actively serves on a national group for best available control technology for coal fire units, and a work group that proposed revisions to the long-standing new source performance standards for power plants.
Prior to joining EPA in 1989, Browne had a long and distinguished career in the private sector ,where he was engaged in significant research and development and was awarded a number of patents.
EPA’s mid-Atlantic region covers Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
