Contact Information: Paula Ballentine, (617) 918-1027

Boston, Mass. – July 25, 2008) - EPA has filed a Superfund lien on property owned by John A. Nunes of Michael John Realty, Inc. and property owned by Linda Marszalkowski and J.M. Mills, Inc. All properties are otherwise known as part of the Peterson/Puritan, Inc. Superfund Site. The addresses for those properties are 44 Mendon Road, 120 Mendon Road and 140 Mendon Road.

A lien on the properties will allow EPA the opportunity to recover costs it has spent at the Site while responding to the release or threat of release of hazardous substances. The land owners were notified by EPA of their liability for the contamination on the Site. The owners were also given the opportunity to finance or perform remedial actions, which they either failed to respond to or denied.

Surrounded by industrial, residential and semi-rural properties, the Peterson/Puritan, Inc. Superfund site has soil and ground water contaminated with various hazardous substances such as trichloroethylene (TCE), benzene, chromium, nickel, lead, asbestos and so on. The site was placed on the National Priorities List in 1983.
