PESTICIDE MANUFACTURER REQUESTS TO VOLUNTARILY CANCEL ISOFENPHOS

At the request of the manufacturer, the EPA is proposing to phase out and cancel isofenphos, an organophosphate pesticide with limited remaining uses on lawns and turf. The company’s request to cancel all existing registration were based on economic reasons and is expected to have little impact on users, as alternative pesticides are available. The public is invited to comment on the proposed cancellation of isofenphos during the next 60 days, as announced in a Federal Register notice published on January 15, 1999. The EPA is continuing to reassess the tolerances for other organophosphates and this voluntary action will not affect that reassessment. This document is available electronically at: www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/. After the comment period, isofenphos will be canceled as requested by the manufacturer, Bayer Corp., unless the company withdraws its request for voluntary cancellation; product registrations are transferred; or the public submits substantive comments that would cause the Agency to reconsider its approach.
