(Seattle, Wash. – December 11, 2006) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 10 announces today that the burn ban issued for Yakama Indian Reservation in Washington is lifted, effective immediately, due to improving air quality conditions. Air quality conditions have improved and are expected to remain as such for the foreseeable future. The burn ban was issued beginning December 5, 2006 as air quality conditions began deteriorating due to a regional air stagnation event.

The EPA also announced that, with the improved conditions, those who choose voluntary reductions in outdoor burning on all other reservations east of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and Washington may resume normal practices.

Please call 1-800-424-4EPA and ask for the FARR Hotline or visit the Federal Air Rules for Reservations (FARR) website for the current burn status at www.epa.gov/r10earth/FARR.htm.
