The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a public availability session regarding the February 2004 residential soil sampling results in Anniston, Hobson City, and Oxford, Alabama. The public availability session will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. at C E Hannah Elementary School, 715 Martin Luther King Drive in Hobson City, Alabama. Officials from EPA will be available to provide information, answer questions, and address concerns regarding the results.
The residential sampling is part of an ongoing removal site assessment that will continue by EPA until Solutia resumes sampling under the terms of the Consent Decree. Solutia has committed to sampling properties under the Consent Decree. EPA continues to remove lead-contaminated soil from residential properties under an Action Memorandum signed on May 28, 2003. The removal site assessment is being conducted in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, also known as Superfund) and the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) which authorize EPA to respond to actual or threatened releases of hazardous substances that may endanger public health, welfare or the environment. |
