The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in conjunction with Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health will participate in an Environmental Health Fair sponsored by the Oconee Regional Medical Center on Saturday, August 7, 1999. The fair will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Hatcher Square Mall in Milledgeville, Georgia.

Representatives from EPA, Rollins School of Public Health and the Community Advisory Board will be available to provide parents and children with information to help reduce exposures to pesticides, asbestos, lead and secondhand smoke. The Community Advisory Board is comprised of State, District and County Health officials and representatives from the Women Infant and Children’s Program (WIC), Milledgeville Housing Authority and Baldwin County Schools. The public is encouraged to attend the fair.

EPA and the Rollins School of Public Health have been working with the Community Advisory Board to institute the Children’s Pesticides, Asbestos and Lead Initiative (PAL). The PAL is an environmental initiative designed to help reduce children’s exposure to pesticides, asbestos and lead. The Initiative serves as the inspiration for an exhibit that will be on display at the fair. The exhibit consists of a puppet show and drawings from the PAL logo contest that was held at Midway Elementary School in Milledgeville.

Persons interested in obtaining additional information about EPA’s PAL Initiative are encouraged to contact Wayne Garfinkel at 404-562-8982.
