U.S. EPA approves steps to improve South Coast air quality
South Coast air district’s 1-hour ozone plan will reduce emissions
LOS ANGELES – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved parts of California’s 2003 plan to meet the 1-hour ozone standard in the South Coast, which will result in greater emissions reductions for the South Coast.
The EPA has also disapproved parts of the plan, which represent revisions to previously-approved plan elements. These particular revisions are not required by the Clean Air Act, and thus, no sanctions are associated with the disapprovals.
The EPA was challenged by the Association of Irritated Residents and the National Resources Defense Council for not acting on the 1-hour plan.
