AUTO EMISSION RECALLS ON JAGUAR XJ12 AND XJS

Jaguar is recalling over 3,500 cars for emission control components which may cause them to fail federal clean air emission standards. This recall affects the Jaguar XJ12, XJS - 6.0 liter V12 engine for model years 1994, 1995 and 1996. Approximately 550 of the Jaguar XJ12 for model years 1995 and 1996 are being recalled for air pump check valve failure, possibly causing excess hydrocarbon emissions. Hydrocarbons are a major contributor to smog which causes problems for asthmatics and aggravates other respiratory conditions. About 3,000 of the Jaguar XJS and XJ12 for model years 1994 and 1995 are being recalled for oxygen sensor circuit failure, a device that ensures the correct amount of fuel and air are burned when the engine is running. Failure of this device can cause excess emissions of harmful air pollutants including nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxides and hydrocarbons. In early August, Jaguar sent notification letters on these recalls to vehicle owners. Once owners receive these letters, they should schedule an appointment with a Jaguar dealer at 1-800-452-4827 to have their car repaired at no cost.
