EPA Recognizes 15 Texas Organizations for Environmental Excellence

     The Region 6 office of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) presented its annual Environmental Excellence Awards Jan. 13 to 15 Texas organizations.  Environmental Excellence Awards recognize and encourage outstanding environmental protection efforts by individuals, non-profit organizations, companies and governments.

     "We are glad to see the outstanding results from these worthy programs. Texas should be proud of the lasting impact its industry, governments and volunteers have generated to benefit the environment.  The EPA is glad to have them as its partners in protecting human health and the environment," EPA Regional Administrator Gregg Cooke said.

     Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission Chairman Robert J. Huston said, "Partnerships are indeed the theme of the Environmental Excellence Awards.  In each of the recognized achievements, individuals, corporations, and governments have worked together with the common aim of enhancing environmental quality.  The Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission is pleased to join with the EPA in this annual highlighting of program excellence."

For Wastewater Management, EPA recognized:
- Harris County Municipal Utility District #170, Harris County (Houston);
- Greens Parkway Municipal Utility District, Harris County (Houston);
- City of Fort Worth;
- City of Dallas;
- City of San Marcos; and
- Trinity River Authority of Texas, Central Regional Wastewater System, Arlington.

For Public Water Supply, EPA recognized:
- Pecan Grove Municipal Utility District, Sugar Land;
- Trinity River Authority of Texas, Huntsville Regional Water Supply System, Arlington; and
- San Antonio Water System.

For Wetlands Protection, EPA recognized:
- Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission, Water Quality Division,Austin; and
- Ronald K. Jones, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Houston.

For Pollution Prevention, EPA recognized:
- James Kachtick, Retired, Occidental Chemical Corp., Houston; and
- Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc., Junction.

For Environmental Education, EPA recognized:
- City of Austin, Watershed Protection Department; and
- Tyler Independent School District, Tyler.
