EPA cites BRC Rubber and Plastics for clean-air violations

(Chicago, Ill. - Jan. 20, 2009) U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has filed an administrative complaint against BRC Rubber and Plastics Inc. for alleged clean-air violations at the company's automotive parts manufacturing and coating plant at 623 Monroe St., Montpelier, Ind. EPA proposed a $109,784 penalty.
EPA alleges the BRC plant emitted excessive amounts of organic hazardous air pollutants in violation of federal regulations and its state operating permit.
BRC has 30 days from receipt of the complaint to file an answer and request a hearing. It may request an informal conference with EPA at any time to discuss resolving the allegations.
Hazardous air pollutants may cause serious health effects including birth defects and cancer. They may also cause harmful environmental and ecological effects.
