EPA PROPOSES NEW SITES TO NPL
EPA is proposing to add 12 sites and proposing for a second time one site to the National Priorities List (NPL). The primary purpose of the NPL is to guide EPA in determining which sites warrant further investigation. Currently there are a total of 72 proposed and 1,202 final sites on the NPL. The Hanlin-Allied-Olin, Moundsville site in West Virginia was originally proposed in October 1995 is being proposed again for EPA to obtain public comment on new Hazardous Ranking System scoring package. The 12 proposed sites are located in 10 states and Puerto Rico. The sites include: Mountain Pine Pressure Treating, Plainview, Ark.; Eastland Woolen Mill, Corinna, Maine; North Belmont PCE, North Belmont, N.C.; Emmell’s Septic Landfill, Galloway Township, N.J.; Martin Aaron Inc., Camden, N.J.; Peter Cooper Corp. (Markhams), Dayton, N.Y.; Hudson Refinery, Cushing, Okla.; Vega Baja Solid Waste Disposal, Rio Abajo Ward, P.R.; Hart Creosoting Co., Jasper, Texas; International Smelting and Refining, Tooele, Utah; Kim-Stan Landfill, Selma, Va.; and Vienna Tetrachloroethene, Vienna, W. Va. Public comments will be accepted for 60 days. The Federal Register Notice is expected to be published April 23.
