(San Francisco)--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) will hold a public meeting to obtain comments on ways to improve the type of right-to-know information available to communities through the Toxics Release Inventory and to eliminate overly burdensome paperwork requirements to industry. The Toxic Release Inventory is a publicly available database that tracks releases of 643 toxic chemicals to the air, water or land. Currently, 22,000 facilities submit over 73,000 forms under U.S. EPA's Toxic Release Inventory program.
The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 1997, at U.S. EPA's San Francisco regional headquarters in the Marianas conference room, 75 Hawthorne St. The Agency is holding nine meetings throughout the country to hear from the public on the reporting form it currently uses to assemble the Toxics Release Inventory national database.
Additional meetings will be held after the first of the year and will be announced in the Federal Register. For more information or to register to speak at the meetings, contact Michelle Price at 202-260-3372.
