ASARCO Bankruptcy Case Summary: Residual Sites Settlement Information Sheet
The Residual Sites Settlement Agreement resolves claims pertaining to past and future cleanup costs associated with three Superfund sites in the States of Idaho, Nebraska, and Washington.
The settlement agreement provides funding in the amount of $880 million, including interest, to clean up the sites, recover past costs, and to fund the administrative expenses associated with the trust.
The Department of Justice and ASARCO filed the settlement agreement with the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas Corpus Christi Division on March 13, 2009. The Court approved the settlement agreement on June 5, 2009. The trust agreement associated with the Coeur d'Alene Superfund Site was filed with the Bankruptcy Court on December 9, 2009.

EPA, Department of the Interior, United States Department of Agriculture, and the States of Washington and Nebraska are parties to the settlement agreement.

The settlement agreement provides $14 million for administrative and cleanup costs associated with the portions of the Coeur d'Alene site owned by ASARCO.
