Description:
The “Summary for Policy Makers” (SPM) is often the only document a policymaker, journalist, or stakeholder will read in the voluminous IPCC Assessment Reports. AR6 is now complete with release of the Synthesis Report (SYR) in March 2023. This webinar will cover how the SYR, along with the SPM of Working Group III, is missing important information and findings on 1.5/2.0 mitigation scenarios that appear in the underlying WGIII report, including: clear, quantitative depictions of mitigation scenarios; depictions of primary energy mix; depictions of electricity generation mix; and references to the role of nuclear power in mitigation scenarios. These missing pieces leave readers with little grasp of the energy transition needed to limit climate change.
