Abstract:
In this report, the evidence on the extent of the risks posed by human exposure to formaldehyde are summarized and a preliminary appraisal of the benefits of reducing these risks is made. The report reviewed a variety of regulatory responses that EPA might consider in developing regulatory strategies for controlling human exposures under the Toxic Substance Control Act and previewed some of the specific issues that may arise in a regulatory impact analysis for formaldehyde regulation. The report also discussed the evidence on the health effects, the population at risk, the valuation methodologies and estimates, and discusses public and private responses to the formaldehyde problem.
