Frequently Asked Questions
Any questions leftover from the webinar will be posted here after the event.
What is ECAD?
ECAD is EPA’s Region 4’s Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Division. ECAD’s enforcement activities target the most serious water, air, and chemical hazards across the Southeast. Through compliance assistance, ECAD provides businesses, federal facilities, local governments, and Tribes with tools to help meet environmental regulatory requirements. ECAD works closely with EPA’s Regional Counsel, Criminal Investigations Division, and the Department of Justice to deliver a comprehensive enforcement and compliance assurance program.
What is NECI?
NECI stands for National Enforcement Compliance Initiatives, which EPA establishes to address the most serious and widespread environmental problems facing the United States. These are updated every 3 years to help focus enforcement resources in priority areas. Read more about EPA’s current initiatives for 2024 – 2027 at the link above.
What are ECHO and EJScreen?
ECHO and EJScreen are two online tools anyone can access to learn more about enforcement history and environmental/demographic data in a given area, respectively.
ECHO, which stand for Enforcement and Compliance History Online, allows users to search for enforcement cases, create maps, and analyze enforcement data. Data is posted to ECHO when enforcement cases are officially concluded.
EJScreen is EPA's environmental justice mapping and screening tool that combines environmental and demographic socioeconomic indicators. EJScreen users choose a geographic area; the tool then provides demographic socioeconomic and environmental information for that area.
