FEELC is a state-of-the art facility that enables EPA to extend child care services to employees. The building includes 20 classrooms, a large multipurpose room, a commercial-grade kitchen, infant care rooms and an outdoor playground.
Sustainable Features
- FEELC received the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Silver for New Construction (version 2.1) certification in February 2008.
- Duke Power operates a 476-panel photovoltaic system on the roof of FEELC.
- An ENERGY STAR® qualified roof and high albedo concrete paving decrease heat absorption and reduce the amount of energy required for cooling.
- Energy-efficient lighting includes occupancy sensors and daylighting dimmers.
- Two cisterns collect and store rainwater for garden irrigation.
