Third-Party High Performance Building Certifications at EPA
ENERGY STAR®
Since 2003, EPA has required all large, newly leased buildings to earn the ENERGY STAR label. As a result of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, all new leases must have earned the ENERGY STAR label within one year prior to the due date of final proposals, or within 18 months of occupancy for new construction.
Two EPA Headquarters facilities have earned the ENERGY STAR label:
- Washington, DC: William J. Clinton Federal Buildings East, West, and Connecting Wing (2012)
- Washington, DC: William J. Clinton Federal Buildings North and South (2011)
In addition, all EPA regional offices have earned the ENERGY STAR label:
- Boston, Massachusetts: Region 1 Office (2015)
- New York, New York: Region 2 Office (2012)
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Region 3 Office (2022)
- Atlanta, Georgia: Region 4 Office (2013)
- Chicago, Illinois: Region 5 Office (2018)
- Dallas, Texas: Region 6 Office (2022)
- Lenexa, Kansas: Region 7 Office (2022)

- San Francisco, California: Region 9 Office (2023)
- Seattle, Washington: Region 10 Office (2013)
