Public Notice: Emergency Hazardous Waste Permit for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska
Summary
EPA is requesting public comment on its recent approval of a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) emergency permit for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson to conduct emergency hazardous waste treatment at its explosive ordnance detonation facility in Anchorage, Alaska.
The emergency permit was effective July 15, 2024, and expired July 29, 2024.
EPA authorized the emergency permit request because there was an imminent and substantial endangerment to people’s health and the environment if the hazardous waste was not promptly disposed of. The hazardous waste was considered unsafe for shipment for routine disposal.
