Cleanup Status
Note: The EPA is the lead agency for managing cleanups at this facility.
On July 9, 2002, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) and PADEP’s consultants conducted a site visit. The visit consisted of a site tour, and information gathering to assess the current status of the facility. EPA is evaluating the available information to determine if the Environmental Indicators, Current Human Exposures and Migration of Contaminated Water, are under control. in July 2018, EPA determined that contamination in groundwater and human exposures risk from contaminants were under control.
On September 30,2020, EPA Determined Corrective Action Cleanups were Completed without need for controls.

The former Solid State Scientific (SSS) facility was located at the corner of Commerce Drive and Enterprise Road in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania. The facility consisted primarily of three buildings in the Montgomeryville Industrial Park. The facility no longer exists and the property has been subdivided into three properties, which each correspond to one of the SSS buildings. Located at 201 Commerce Drive is SSS Building #1, which is currently privately owned, and operated by Mid-Lands Chemical Company. The HVDC own the SSS Building #2. Ferro, who recently purchased the original tenant EMCA, currently lease this property which is located at 160 Commerce Drive. At 200 Commerce Drive is SSS Building #3, which is currently owned and operated by Moyco. The three properties are located in an industrial park. Neighboring properties are mostly industrial and commercial with some residences in the general vicinity.
The SSS Montgomeryville facility was a semiconductor manufacturing facility that produced large-scale integrated circuits. These circuits were used in watches, clocks, smoke detectors, computers, space and telecommunications, military communications, and various other uses.
Contaminants at this Facility
EPA has evaluated the facility and has determined that the Facility met the EPA’s residential standards for soil and groundwater. Therefore, EPA proposes no further action is necessary for the Facility.
Institutional and Engineering Controls at this Facility
Institutional controls were not required at the facility.
