Cleanup Status
Note: The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) is the lead agency for managing cleanups at this facility.
During filling operations of an Underground Storage Tank (UST), one documented release occurred. During this event, less than 50-gallons of diesel fuel were discharged onto the ground surface. During fueling operations, the hose containing fuel was removed from the UST, and the fuel was allowed to discharge onto the ground. This release occurred north of the silo from a UST system that has since been removed. The impacted soil was excavated, placed on plastic sheeting, and turned to encourage biodegradation of the fuel. Once biodegradation was complete, the soil was placed at an unknown location on-site.
A Final Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Site Visit Report was issued on March 13, 2007, for the Facility. A Statement of Basis (SOB) was noticed in The News Virginian on April 21, 2009. The EPA issued its Final Decision regarding the Facility on May 28, 2009, stating that Corrective Action was Complete without Controls.

The facility is located on an approximately 300-acre parcel of land in a rural residential and agricultural area. The facility is comprised of a vehicle maintenance building, barn, office building, and silo. The closest surface water body is Poor Farm Draft, approximately 300 feet north of the facility. All raw hazardous chemicals and wastes currently stored at the facility are stored in areas with impermeable floor surfaces and most have secondary containment.
The facility maintains two diesel fuel Aboveground Storage Tanks (ASTs) on the northern portion of the site. Two diesel fuel Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) have been removed from the site. Used oil is stored in small ASTs in the maintenance building. The facility also has one 3,000-gallon diesel AST and one 8,000-gallon (estimated) diesel AST.
