Amphenol Off-Site Vapor Intrusion (VI) Investigation
Beginning September 4, 2018 Amphenol has been testing priority homes for vapor near the former Amphenol site.
The week of September 9, 2018, Amphenol will be sampling sewer gas in the Study Area. Soil gas testing will begin September 24, 2018. The sampling results may identify additional homes that may need testing.
EPA met with Amphenol Corp. on August 7 and 8, 2018 to plan the vapor intrusion investigation in the off-Site Study Area south of the facility. The purpose of the off-site study area investigation is to evaluate the potential for vapors to enter indoor spaces through volatilization from groundwater and/or via direct entry from sewer lines, and to take any necessary actions to protect residents. The meeting also resulted in a plan for early sampling of priority homes.
The week of August 13, 2018, Amphenol Corp. met with the city of Franklin to discuss an access agreement for sampling in street rights-of-ways (ROWs), sewers, and utility trenches. Sampling in ROWs to identify areas of elevated soil gas is faster than obtaining access agreements for each home. Where soil gas and sewer gas is elevated near the streets, Amphenol Corp. will seek access agreements from the nearby homeowners to sample beneath and within homes (as indicated by the data). The city of Franklin issued the access agreement on August 31, 2018.
On August 30, 2018, EPA formally requested a Work Plan for the VI investigation in the off-site study area, after several discussions with Amphenol Corp on the study design.
