Selected Application Summary
The selected application will coordinate a regional transportation initiative to deliver residents new, clean travel options. Working together, the coalition will expand proven solutions to reduce greenhouse (GHG) emissions across five counties, improve air quality, and promote public transit over single-occupancy vehicles in anticipation of the construction of a multimodal transportation network, including a light rail system. The grant funds will focus on three measures: 1) improving regional transit service, 2) investing in mobility infrastructure, and 3) inspiring behavior change.
Key Things to Know
Based on information provided by the applicant, the selected project will deliver the following benefits to reduce GHGs and support communities 1:
- Expand transit connectivity across Central Texas, leading to shorter wait times for transit and reduced travel costs.
- Provide enhanced first- and last-mile mobility options through expansion of the local electric bikeshare system and micromobility choices.
- Construct large-scale bicycle storage at 16 mobility hubs.
- Provide incentives for residents to use vanpool programs, ridesharing, and bike share programs, including transit fare subsidies.
- Reduce vehicle-miles-traveled and increase equity by improving transit and mobility infrastructure in low-income and disadvantaged communities.
Activities in the selected application reflect measures in the City of Austin’s Priority Climate Action Plan (pdf) (2.1 MB).
1 The emission reduction estimates, as well as the descriptions of measures and benefits, were summarized from information provided by the applicant. These estimates, along with the award amount, are subject to change.
EPA will award grants to selected applicants once they meet all legal and administrative requirements. As of July 2024, grants are expected to be awarded by the end of 2024.
