Selected Application Summary
The selected application will support three greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction measures to deliver substantial environmental, economic, and health benefits to Tribal residents. Specific efforts include conducting a fleet sustainability study, replacing internal combustion engines with electric vehicles (EV), and installing solar-powered charging stations. The selected application will also introduce a public transport system with three electric buses to decrease single-passenger roadway emissions, benefiting tribal members through improved mobility options, air quality, and cost savings. Energy efficient enhancements for new Tribal residences that are planned for construction over the next 5 years will also be implemented.
Key Things to Know
Based on information provided by the applicant, the selected project will deliver the following benefits to reduce GHGs and support communities 1:
- Foster zero emission EV charging by installing 55 Level 2 chargers and 15 fast chargers tied to solar carports.
- Replace 50 Tribally owned vehicles with EVs and plug-in hybrid EVs to reduce gasoline consumption by an estimated 20,056 gallons per year.
- Implement replicable energy upgrades, including efficient roofing; windows; insulation; and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), in 25 Tribal residences to achieve cost savings and set the stage for future investments.
- Enhance public health outcomes in the Tribal community by reducing reliance on fossil fuels that emit hazardous air pollutants.
Activities and benefits summarized above reflect the measures in Southeast Florida’s Priority Climate Action Plan (pdf) (9.2 MB).
