Selected Application Summary
The selected application will support the installation of a commercial-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the Sandia Resort and Casino (SRC) parking garage. The solar PV system will mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by reducing grid consumption at the SRC, which is one of the largest consumers of power in the state of New Mexico. The selected application will also install Level 2 and Level 3 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that will provide convenient EV charging to residents, guests, and employees throughout the Tribal community. The project activities will reduce GHG emissions and air pollution, develop clean energy infrastructure, and promote workforce development in the maintenance of clean energy infrastructure at the Pueblo of Sandia.
Key Things to Know
Based on information provided by the applicant, the selected project will deliver the following benefits to reduce GHG and support communities 1:
- Install a commercial-scale solar PV system on the SRC parking garage; the PV system will deploy a 356-kilowatt array of solar panels on the existing covered parking at the casino, producing approximately 557 megawatt hours of electricity per year.
- Install 16 EV charging points across the Tribal community, consisting of three dual pedestal Level 3 fast chargers and five dual pedestal Level 2 chargers.
- Incentivize the decarbonization of the Pueblo of Sandia’s commercial and transportation sectors by decreasing the carbon footprint of the area’s single largest source of energy consumption.
- Promote workforce development and job opportunities through project activities and expand the Pueblo of Sandia’s clean energy sector capacity.
Activities and benefits summarized above reflect the measures in the Pueblo of Sandia’s Priority Climate Action Plan (pdf) (1.0 MB).
1 The emission reduction estimates, as well as the descriptions of measures and benefits, were summarized from information provided by the applicant. These estimates, along with the award amount, are subject to change.
EPA will award grants to selected applicants once they meet all legal and administrative requirements. As of August 2024, grants are expected to be awarded by the end of 2024.
