2023 Lead-Based Paint Technical Workshop
The lead-based paint technical workshop has been rescheduled to November 1 and 2, 2023.
On November 1 and 2, 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will hold a virtual technical workshop to hear stakeholder perspectives on specific topics related to exposure to lead from existing residential lead-based paint, such as information on the relationship between lead-based paint and dust-lead, possible exposure pathways, and technologies for detection, measurement, and characterization of low levels of lead in paint. Through the workshop, EPA and HUD also seek to obtain new information on lead-based paint characteristics to help with EPA and HUD’s reevaluation of the definition of lead-based paint.
As part of EPA’s and HUD’s joint effort to revisit the definition of lead-based paint, this virtual workshop will gather critical input on innovative methods to address lead in paint and reduce lead exposure across the United States. EPA enforces the definition through its Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) program and Lead-Based Paint Activities (LBPA) program and HUD through its Lead-Safe Housing Rule (LSHR).

Call for Abstracts - 2023 Lead-Based Paint Technical Workshop (pdf)
EPA and HUD are seeking presenters for the workshop who have used or evaluated measurement and detection technologies or other methods to characterize low levels of lead in existing paint, as well as those with expertise on the relationship between lead-based paint levels and composition, dust-lead and lead exposure pathways from lead-based paint.
If you have expertise on this subject or have used or evaluated these technologies and are interested in sharing your experiences with workshop attendees in a formal presentation, please apply to present at the workshop by submitting an abstract.
EPA will accept abstracts by August 11. Submitters will be notified if their abstract is accepted or not by August 30. If accepted, presentations will be due September 29.
