International Activities of the Landfill Methane Outreach Program
In the past, LMOP’s efforts to promote landfill gas (LFG) recovery and use extended beyond U.S. borders. Internationally, LMOP worked with organizations to promote LFG recovery and use by offering a variety of outreach, education and technical assistance services to countries interested in LFG energy project development.
Those interested in learning more about EPA’s current international efforts or currently developing or considering developing LFG energy projects outside of the United States, can visit the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) website. GMI is an international public-private partnership focused on reducing barriers to the recovery and use of methane as a valuable energy source. GMI provides technical support to Partner Countries in three sectors: biogas (agriculture, municipal solid waste and wastewater), coal mines and oil and gas systems.
